For many years, these long-term catheters have been the norm for critical care in human medicine. The catheters are inserted into the jugular vein by the Seldinger procedure. A guiding wire system is employed.
Non-reactive polyurethane catheters can be used for a longer period of time, such as 3–4 weeks.
– Catheters with one, two, or even three lumens and varying lengths allow the simultaneous delivery of several IV drugs.
